About the organisation

Eco-Markets Australia is the country's first independent environmental markets administrator. A not-for profit organisation, we create opportunities for farmers, graziers, utilities and other landowners and managers to be paid for the work they do in improving our environment.

We do this by administering crediting schemes that explicitly measure, value and pay for approved on-ground activities that contribute to environmental outcomes. The first product developed was the Reef Credit Scheme – a world-first environmental market scheme designed to improve the quality of water flowing to the Great Barrier Reef. We are also developing the Cassowary Credit Scheme – a rainforest recovery program for the Wet Tropics region, and other water and land-based markets.

About the role

The Chief Executive Officer will lead Eco-Markets Australia in an entrepreneurial style at a critical time in its growth. The successful candidate will have experience in founding or leading dynamic early-stage businesses.
Eco-Markets Australia’s core function is to successfully develop and administer nascent environmental markets and the CEO’s primary task will be to deliver a sustainable business model for the future of the organisation.

As Australia's first administrator of voluntary environmental markets, you will lead the development and implementation of the organisation’s Corporate Strategy   through effective engagement with the Board, Technical Advisory Committee, key stakeholders and the Brisbane-based team.

You will manage a small, high performing team to support the successful delivery of the organisation’s current significant funded contract agreements including ensuring key milestones and reporting requirements are met.

You will also work closely with the Chair and Board to secure future funding for the organisation beyond 2026.

About the person

An experienced leader of dynamic, commercial, early-stage businesses, you have commercial business acumen, financial aptitude, and the ability to lead a start-up business to ensure long term sustainability.

An effective written and verbal communicator, you have exceptional stakeholder engagement and strategic public and private sector relationship building capability – particularly with the Queensland and Australian Governments.

You have a genuine interest in the agricultural, environmental, water and/or sustainability sector.

As the leader of a voluntary independent market administrator, you must display and embed integrity, diligence and service throughout the organisation and marketplace.
